Red face '16 Charger SXT. Rapid humming/weering road noise.

After purchasing a used '16 Charger SXT with 43,000 on it, I noticed a Humming sound coming from what sounds like the tires. However it grows louder as I accelerate and go faster when getting into the freeway.

On the way home I stopped by another dealership where I test drive the same year, model and make with the same miles just a few days ago. I wanted to test drive it again to compare it's sound with the one I just bought a few hours ago.

..and there was a difference for sure. The one I bought, odd weering road noise along with the normal road noise. The one I test drove a 2nd time was had only normal road noise. The car salesman helped me even further by spending a few seconds looking at my car. And he noticed something right away almost instantly...
The front and back tires were the same size, but not the same brand nor the tread. He thinks that is the reason. I hope so, as I'm seeing in these similar forums that it could also be wheel bearings or fluid.

Any advice, next steps or takes?

I DO have an immediate 60 day 3,000 warranty to use..

toe wear, a feather edge saw tooth pattern on the inside or outside edge of the tires will make a growl type noise. a wheel bearing will make the same sound but can be louder when the bad bearing is loaded by long sweeping lane change maneuvers. crown and pinions tend to whine not growl.

Hi atarrant,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to revisit your dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

Are you sure it isn't coming from the engine? These cars have serious alternator issues. Probably a recall on it even as we speak lol.
