You seem to make a lot of posts in the 3rd Gen section, so, you must have a 3rd gen.
Anyways, I haven't really heard too much bad about their newer transmissions. They did have some bad luck with their 4-speed auto's in the 1990's, but it doesn't seem to be quite as wide-spread as some people make it out to be (that, and lets face it, not everyone does the maintenance their supposed to, which doesn't help).
Just ignore all the comments, but make sure you do the scheduled maintenance, and only use ATF+4 fluid.

it is in reference to the rams. they were eating up the tranny for some reason. now the newer ones are pretty much bullet proof.

i can tell you that my 94's transmission is junk but it still works, just likes to have it's jolts when shifting especially after highway driving

It's a general reputation with Dodges. My sister had a dodge caravan trany go out on her, a few dodge trucks had tranny issues... most mechanics I know say they've seen it happen fairly often to Dodges. It just seems to be their reputaiton.

Their 2007 and newer stuff though, lord knows. This sort of stuff is time proven, and on newer designs, there is no way to tell. It's all just manufacturer reputation and integrity.

It’s ashamed that Dodge has that reputation these days. They use to have without a doubt the most bulletproof fastest clean shifting Trans in the Torkflite 727A. Sure, it was a three speed but it was so good that it was used as the best Trans for the track. I still say they need to get the computer out of the auto trans shifting business. Automatics have been doing just fine without a computer envolved for many years.
