Engine ?
Heres my question. I bought a 89 Daytona, not sure if it just plain or ES. replacing engine. It has the 2.5L non-turbo one and I keep hearing about these balancing shafts and disconnecting them for more hp on the engine. How does that work, so I can do it before puttin the new engine in. Can anyone help?

RE: Engine ?
If you remove the oil pan, you will see the balance shaft assembly and the chain that drives it. Removing the balance shafts frees up some horsepower.

RE: Engine ?
Thanks roadrunner, it is a new long block that I have comming and I have to install the oil pan back onit so figured I would do it while it was off. Do you know if it causes any problems disconnected and thanks again

RE: Engine ?
Removing the Balance shafts do free up some power. DO NOT forget to to plug the oil feed gally to the balance shaft assy or you will have 0 oild pressure and could possably wreck the top end before you can say "where is the oil pressure"
See here for balance shaft removal -----> http://www.turbovan.net/balshaft.html |
RE: Engine ?
It will also help by getting rid of a few pounds as well.
