Clutch Install
So i have searched around and was unable to find anything that would give me any sort of idea on how to install a new clutch. Mine is slipping a bit and i figured i would be proactive and throw a PT clutch in. Now I am against dropping $600 on a new clutch for a couple of reasons, more than money. Mainly I'd simply rather learn how to do it. Has anyone seen a decent walk through for this? and is it possible for a novice??If its truly dumb for me to attempt this on my own then i'm sure no one will hesistate to say so.
Thanks
Thanks
well it requires u dropping the tranny and u'll probly have to buy a new tool which is the clutch alainment tool i got a LuK clutch from clutch city online full kit for like 200$ with really fast shipping...also u have to make sure the flywheel and pressure plate are spot less and u need to wear non powered gloves either vinyl or latacs
hmm doesnt seem like $600 worth, how hard is it to pull the tranny in these things? havent wandered that far in. and the post about clutch installs didnt mention what it consists of just different prices for shops it looked like.
....dropping the trans out of a neon is a PAIN IN THE @$$ from what i've heard from the guy that worked on my trans... twice.... (first time he didnt replace the axle seals... so it was still leaking fluid so ruined the first new one he put in...) anyways if you're really motivated and have all the tools, time and money then go for it... otherwise i wouldn't suggest it... dont forget you are gonna need new mopar trans fluid anything else will make the trans have a heart attack and die on you... you're also gonna need the clutch allignment tool as well as the chemical proof gloves that don't have the powder in them... and i hope you have a torque wrench capable of torquing the clutch, flywheel pressure plate to spec. ur gonna need high temp driveaxle grease too..... its a fairly extensive job if you dont have someone that knows what they are doing with you... b/c you have to make sure all the splines are lined up PERFECT or you will strip the crap out of the drive axle splines and then you will be in the market for basically a whole new drivetrain... :-\ honestly I'd just buy the clutch I want to put in it, bring the clutch to a shop and ask him how much it would be for them to put it in for you... i'd bet you'd only pay about $300-$400 for the job... and thats on the high side...
