Default Replacement Oil before first change

Hey guys,

Looking through the manual, it warns about losing some oil while the engine break-in period is going on and for the first few thousand miles or whatever.

Well, my question is, during that period before the first oil change, if you check it and it's low, what do you put in?

If you're going to go the synthetic route, do you start adding a bit of that right away? Is there a certain oil you use to "fill'er up" when adding oil before the first change?

This may be a very stupid question...I've never owned a new new vehicle before (got this one with 20 miles on it). We're about to take off on a 700 mile round-trip getaway for the weekend and I don't want to be hurting this engine from the get-go.

Thanks

I would top off with conventional oil until you change it. Nice to have a NEW vehicle, love that smell. Has your oil level gone down at all? I have 1000 mi on mine and its still ok so far. I had a VW that was my first NEW car and did the 5000 mi break-in and changed over to synthetic Mobil 1. I would have to add a quart between changes. I switched back to conventional and it stopped using oil. I will see how synthetic works in the truck when I change my oil.
