Hello guys/gals,

I have just traded my 2008 BMW 335i for a new 2009 Crew Cab Sport, and wanted to introduce myself. I am really new to truck, but always wanted one. This is my first daily driver truck.

I was looking for a good deal for a long time. So I found one truck that almost matched my desired features and went with it. I must say - they really have sweet deals on those 2009s.

Mine came with the Ram Box, Sunroof, Side steps, Dual Exhaust, 20inch rims, Alpine sound system, and the 3.55 ratio.

So, far I really like the truck except for two things:
1) It does not have the 3.92 ratio and it feels a little sluggish
2) When I am driving on a highway and I am simply cruising I hear some noise from the differential or something. When I release the gas pedal it goes away. The sound is like a very soft and numb whistling.

Here are my questions:
1) Is it possible to change the ratio to 3.92 with the 4x4 and how expensive that is? Can I do it at the dealer so I can keep my warranty?
2) Is this sound normal for trucks or 4x4 trucks? I know that especially the 4x4s have a lot of rotating part on below the cabin. Should I go back to the dealer or am I just overreacting?

Thank you for all your help and suggestions!

Congrats on the new truck...you'll love it!! I can't comment on your 4X4 issue since I have a 4X2 but getting the gears afterwords is expensive. My buddy was looking at a truck that had everything he wanted with 3.55s and we got quotes between $1200-$2000 to install the 3.92s with LSD. He decided to wait and held out about 4 months until he found one with what he wanted with the 3.92s. If the dealership installs them and they're DODGE parts they will be covered under your warranty.

Congrats again!

Thank you very much for you reply. I almost gave up on that thread since no one replied back.
I will go to a dealership and ask for a 4x4 test drive to see if it has the same humming/whistling sound/noise.
Thanks again!

There shouldn't be any wierd humming from anywhere unless you have the 4x4 engaged. There are no real extra moving parts until you engage the 4x4 system. If you are on dry pavement don't engage it as it is not a full time 4x4 system. Take it in let the mechanic listen to it.

It is very distant humming sound a lot of people don't even notice it until I mention it to them.
I would not be surprised if someone messed up the 4x4 system during one of the test drives. The truck had about 80 miles on the clock when I got it.
Hopefully everything is normal and I am just too cautious and listen to the car a little too much, instead of enjoying it

Thank you for your reply!

I'm no expert, but since you are only hearing the noise when the gas pedal is down I would suggest the noise you hear is from the engine intake. While cruising along, when you hear the noise, try applying a little more gas and see if the noise changes.... Your gears would make a noise whether or not the engine is turning fast or slow (no gas.)
