I'm looking at buying a 2009 Ram 1500. It has the rear view camera and the upgraded sound system (touch screen, hard drive, but no nav).

What would be required to upgrade to navigation on this vehicle?

It is as simple as buying the nav headunit? If it is, does anyone know the part number?

A new head unit, unless yours says RER in the bottom right corner, you cannot just add nav to it. You can however save your self a hell of a lot of money and just buy an after market nav unit and keep the radio you have. I am going to do that. I thought about upgrading to an RER but stayed with REN...and added Uconnect so our bluetooth phones work thru

You would need more than just a new headunit. I believe you'd also need an antenna and some other part. Just get a nice portable unit.

 

I agree with Sobo...that is my plan few hundred bucks and a bean bag to sit in on the console so I don't have circle marks or obvious portable nav unit in vehicle then you can hide in your glove box.
