Default Problems with my brand new Ram

Has anyone out there with an 09 Ram 1500 had any problems with their Electronic Range Select (ERS)? Mine just turns itself on and locks the truck in 4th. This occurs during all types of driving, including city and highway, and at many different speeds from about 20 mph up to 85 mph. It also occurs both when the truck is cold and when it is hot. This is a Florida truck so it never sees hills and it has never pulled a trailer. When the ERS turns on, the only way to turn it off is to stop and turn the truck off, let it sit, and then start the truck again. There have been a couple of times when the ERS kicks on but it won't disengage, at all.

I've had the truck since the beginning of this month. It has just under 1000 miles on it and has already been to the dealer twice for this problem (one time it was driven to the dealer with the ERS stuck engaged) . Both times the remedie was to reflash one control module or the other. When the dealership opens on Monday, I'll sure be talking to the service manager.

It's too bad. I had a great, trouble free experience owning my previous Ram and I sure love this new one. For the first time in almost 30 years of buying vehicles, however, I have my Lemon Law book out...

when you say ers locks in 4th, do you mean the truck physically stays in fourth gear no matter what the speed, or that you are unable to shift above ERS 4 into 4 or 5? If the first, I would suspect one of the modules is bad. If the latter, could be the modules, but I believe that behavior would occur if a high trans temp is detected, so it could perhaps be a bad temp sensor.

I'm not a mechanic, just throwing thoughts out there.

There is a similar thread on here and the issue was with the tranny module. Pretty sure they had to replace it.

Found it.....

Thanks for the replies. Not only does the ERS pop on by itself but it stays in fourth, no matter what the speed. I can't shift it up or down and teh only remedy os to turn the truck off. I've monitored the trans. temp. on the EVIC and it seems to stay OK. Topgun, the link that you sent seems to be my problem. I guess next week it's back to the stealership.

That's good to know. I've read posts from others with a similar issue. It seems that the the fix is less a problem with the truck and more a problem with some of the dealerships out there.

Yeah, I've been quite unimpressed with dealer saervice lately. It seems like its gotten even worse over the last few years. And the best service department in the area was shut down.
