Default 285's on 09 4x4 SLT CREW????

I have searched everywhere to get an answer to this question....does anyone know if a 285/70/r17 will fit on these 09 rams without a leveling kit or lift??? with stock 17" rims??? I am aware that the rim is 7 inches wide, but so was my '97 1500 sport and the 285 BFG All Terrains I had on it barely rubbed the arm on full turn of the wheel. I am dying to know if they will fit on here because the more I read about the stock Goodyear SR-A's, the more I realize that I will probably be changing these tires sooner than later. Thanks guys.

I am running the 285 BFG's on the stock 17's with no rub at all. I have a CC 4X4 Laramie no level kit.

wow.. according to the tire calculator, that 285/70R17 is shorter than the stock 275/60R20's by about a 1/4"....

Buckmann686 that is exactly what I want to hear! BTW, do you have any pics of your truck with those tires on it...I would love to see how they look.

Stvsherrod - I see what you mean using the calculator for the 20 inch rim stock tires but I wonder how wide that 20" rim is. I have stock 265/70/r17's on mine and a jump up to the 285's would be over an inch taller than what I have now but the stock rim is only 7" wide. I had 305/70/R (16" or 17" cannot remember) on my '01 Ram 1500 4x4 with the offroad package and I had no rubbing what-so-ever on that rig, but the stock rims were 7.5" or 8".

I have read some really bad things about these stock Goodyear RS-A's. I miss the Mich. LTX M/S that came stock on my Tacoma...60K miles on those tires when I sold it and they still had at least 15k miles more life to them. It is ashame that Dodge and others opt to cut corners on tire selection when it is one of the most important 'saftey" features on the truck. I understand keeping prices low, but there are some much better options that are close to the same price range.

well the TRX4's come with 275's on the 17" rims. when it comes tmie to replace them I was hoping to move up to a taller tire without getting new rims. be interested in how this thread plays out.

Thanks for the pics man, they look good! Now after seeing this, it begs the question of "I wonder if 305/70/r17's will fit on the stock rims w/o a lift"!!! If not, I am definitely getting the same 285 BFG AT KO's...that is a great tire.

I would recommend against this. I had an 03 Ram Off-Road I put the Goodyear MT/R 305's on and it was a nightmare to drive. The stock wheels are too narrow and they would "float" inside the tires while driving. It was almost impossible to handle when you hit a bump. The tires only rubbed on full turns and the truck was not lifted. I ended up selling the truck. Pics below.

I agree.....i had 305's on my 04 F150 and it was a little scary until i upgraded the rims to 9" moto metals....then they were fine....
