Unhappy Bad Thanksgiving for the Ram

Actually it happened Wednesday afternoon, but still. Just took the Ram in for an oil change and on the way back home, just after turning the Ram over 12,000 miles, a guy in front of me loses his 6ft ladder out of the back of his truck! It was raining and I swerved to avoid the ladder, ended up catching the soft shoulder which drug me down into the ditch further, bounced over a farm field driveway and caught some cut off tree branches or something at the edge of the ditch. I was able to drive back out of the ditch though. Got out and looked at the damage and it is pretty bad. Starting front to back, front fender might have a few scratches on it, but the real damage starts on the passenger doors. Mirror is somewhat broken, huge gashes under the door handles, something ripped at the back door at the seam between the 2 doors and put a huge issue there. Multiple scratches and gashes on the 2 doors. Scratches down the box, dents on the box, chip taken out of the bumper and a chunk taken out of the rear wheel. I got it back out on the road and realized the truck was drivebable, but pulling to the right. Something was screwed up mechanically hitting that driveway edge. I don't know if the rim is bent or it is just out of alignment or what.

The guy did stop and supposidly his insurance is going to take care of it, but since it happened Wednesday afternoon, the offices were closed Thursday and Friday, so I haven't heard anything yet. There is a claim put in already though since we were able to sneak it in Wednesday night before they closed. But, I have been without my Ram now for almost a week and just want to get it fixed and back again.

I have some pics, but not with me at the moment. I will post some if I get a chance. I don't know how much this is going to take to fix and how long but it sure does suck. Poor Ram.

He probably stopped to get his ladder. Saw it was a Ram and knew the driver was OK.
Then though "damn, that is going to cost me, I should have secured that ladder."
Glad you are OK. Sorry for the truck..

Update: The guys insurance appraiser came out last night after much phone tag and took a look at the truck and found about $4600 worth of damage so far. That is just what he could see. His insurance has excepted liability and is going to cover it. So, I am currently working on getting it into a shop and it should be about 9-12 days to get it fixed. I am hoping to have it back before Christmas. Wouldn't that be a nice present?

I didn't cry, but I felt really bad about the damage. I love this truck a lot. I didn't even get mad at the guy who lost the ladder either. How could I; he was driving a Ram himself, but a 2nd Gen! Hah! These things happen and the Ram kept me in really good shape, so as long as I can get it fixed, its all good. I will have to try and take some better pics of the damage tonight(as long as it doesn't get dark too fast on me) and I will post them here.

Thanks guys
