I messed up the black plastic cap on the top of my tailgate yesterday, anyone know how much a new one will run me?

I was trying to get another one out of the dealer on warranty after I messed mine up unloading a snowmobile. He slipped up and told me that his price on them was $14. If you have a good parts person you should be able to get one for around $20 to $25, list is $36.10. It's great, can't slide anything across the tailgates without it costing us 36 bucks.

Get the tailgate piece from the Mopar rubber bed mat set. Solves that problem. I drive sleds in and out of the bed all the time, the mat sticks up higher than the tailgate plastic, plus it keeps the carbides from destroying the tailgate.

on the 2011 i saw it has screws or clips on the inside of the tailgate that hold it on, that my 2009 doesnt have. anyone know if that helps any , and if they can be upgrade? i have ripped 3 off and even for free its gotten annoying, im going to just screw it down with a strip of metal to act as a ramp, anything, and i mean anything even grocery bags rip that piece of crap off.

I dont understand why there is not an aftermarket aluminum/diamond plate REPLACEMENT available. I would pay to replace mine with a usable/durable item. I dont mind the look of the plastic but it almost comes off by the wind currents on the highway. Even after I siliconed mine down it is again starting to lift and come off on the drivers corner... This and key fobs not working well are my only complaints about my truck.

Frazer... Sounds like you should fab one up... Pitch it to some companies.. (make one for all truck brands) and make sure bucks.. If one was made out of diamond plate I'd totally go for it.

or if you are real serious:

Looks like it just goes over the stock plastic though.

I had a FULL taligate protector on my 99 dodge ram. Ten years later, dodge takes a step back in the tailgate durability. I do appreciate the tailgate not weighing 100 pounds now though!
