Question Ignition fell apart

Hi folks,

I have a 60 day old 2011 Ram 1500. 2 days ago I tried to start my truck and the key wouldn't turn in the ignition. Turns out there are 2 pieces of plastic inside the barrel of the ignition that recess when the key is inserted and they were both broken at the base. There was zero extra force on the key, no sound or sensation of breaking plastic just a piece of broken plastic and metal springs now showing where the plastic used to depress. I gotta tell ya it was extremely painful watching my 60 day old being dragged along the pavement on to the bed of the tow!
I had an aftermarket remote start (Avital) installed by the dealer and I'm wondering if its necessary to have access to the ignition to install this unit. I am thinking along the lines that the ignition was "prebroken" for me during this install. Anyone have any firsthand knowledge of these things?
I am not seeing any other reports of faulty ignitions for this year and model.

Thanks,

Mongoid

Aftermarket remote start? they have to get to the Ignition cyln to Bi-pass the transponder. So i guess the installer broke it. Most dealership Sub out these things to local installer instead of doing it themselves.

Isn't there Mopar remote start for ur truck?
