Default Help hard wiring a back up camera.

I just got a back up camera that attaches to the license plate bolts and wirelessly transmits to the small monitor in the cab. Directions want you to "splice" into the back up lights wiring. I don't want to do this. I would like to hard wire the camera and somehow put a switch in so I can turn the camera on and off at will. I am also **** about the truck so I don't want to drill any holes or anything like that. Has anyone done this? If so how, and please keep in mind I am not real electrically inclined.

You will need to connect it to a switch. Power lead from your camera to toggle, power lead from battery to toggle, toggle to ground. It's easy but it kind of defeats the purpose of your wireless camera. You're adding wires.. but nonetheless it's an easy job and shouldnt take you long

You could tap in to the reverse wire in the 7 pin trailer harness. That's what I did for my light bar.

Thanks guys, Bigred thats kinda what I was thinkin the same but the directions want me to crimp a plastic piece on the back up wires and my luck I will cut the darn thing. Laramie sounds like a great idea prob would not have to add additional wiring. Did you have to "splice" into the the wiring to the connector or is there a secret to avoid that. Also I was kinda thinkin it would be nice to be able to turn the camera on at will so I could check on things while traveling. I have a 31ft camper that is at the top of the towing capacity so it would be peace of mind just to look. I thought about striping the positive wire and running the end into the stop light socket then just running with the parking lights on and turning the monitor on and off when needed. Is that a dumb idea?

I used a wired license plate frame camera and bought the mygig lockpick. Hook that to the radio and it gives you rca input to hook the camera up to the factory radio. That allows you to watch the camera while you're driving also. I tow a camper the same size as yours. Kinda nerve racking at times.
