Mopar Steps Chrome
So I noticed when wading the truck this weekend that the chrome behind the front passenger side is pealing. I am pretty upset since the truck is 15 months old. Of course I am at 40k but my question is I have lifetime maxcare and I thought that dealer installed accessories were covered anyone have any experience with this.
My other question is that has anyone had these re-chromed or powder coated. If so anyone have ideas on the cost I would like to get them powder coated in black if not covered. Thanks

First off, did you wash them regulary..? and WAX them at LEAST a minimum of a couple times a year...???
Anyhow, good luck getting a new set under warranty, BUT ya never know.....
Squeaky wheel gets the grease...go back to the dealer and b_itch.
If you get no results from your dealer, call chrysler an b_itch some more, but louder.
If you still get nowhere, powdercoat them or buy a set of stainless tubes and be done with it.
If you know of a good powdercoating shop, they`ll prolly charge you $100 to $150 to do both.
Its no secret that these dodge step tubes are VERY poor quality... (thanks alot chrysler, you cheap bazturds...!!!!!!)
I highly dought you`ll see these dodge chrome step tubes go past 4 or 5yrs without the chrome peeling and rusting out.
Chryslers tubes are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY over priced, you can buy a better quality stainless tube for less than 1/2 the price.

Dealer installed steps are covered for 3/36. Your at 40K. Your on your own.
In another post I said I went in and they covered it and my bed rail covers under warranty. That was back in May. Still have not seen the new steps or rails.
If mine were not covered I would have had them striped and powder coated black, or bought a better step.

I wash my truck and the steps weekly and use chrome polish monthly so that is definitely no the issue reading the MaxCare Warrant it indicates accessories installed by the dealer are covered so I may try but I have had huge issues with these already they were never installed properly and actually one fell off so I have never been happy with them. I can understand 4-5 years but 2 is a little crazy. I had the original steps on my 1997 F150 when I traded it in and they were still mounted better and in good shape for 12 years old. I have already had a bumper replaced because of rust really not impressed with the corrosion prevention on this and I can't believe that they are using such crappy vendors.
How does polishing the outside of the chrome affect its bond to the metal underneath? Sounds fishy to me.
I'm not a huge fan of chrome to begin with, and chromed parts today aren't like chromed parts of the past, meaning they look nice when new but don't last long.
That's why I went with the powder coated black step tubes. Also, the black almost never look dirty while chrome never look clean.
