Default Requesting TSB 23-022-10 NOV 10 Body - Water Leak Diagnostics Information

Hi All,

I have a 2010 Dodge Ram Quad Hemi SXT. I am requesting this TSB b/c I have this weird Condensation issue in my truck..

When it is cool / cold outside and sunny. My Cab warms up and the interior windows have condensation on them. I then have to either wait 10 - 15 minutes for the A/C to dry the windows or wipe it with a towel.

They have leak tested it and no water in the cab. I even checked under the carpets.

Regards,
Anthony

Are you running your truck constantly with the "REC" button in the "ON" postition...? That is probably why you`re seeing all that condensation building up. Shut the "REC" button off, should clear up very soon. Todays vehicles are more air tight, they need outside air and venting to keep them dried out inside. On nice days, crack a window open and allow fresh air to come in, that will dry it up inside as well. If you live in a high humid area, you need to run the vehicle with the windows down a little bit to help combat the higher humidity levels.

Tony,
turn off the "REC", thats whats most likely causing the problem. You are recirculating moisture inside the truck by using the "REC" button in the "ON" position. I NEVER use the "REC" button and i never have condensation issues, but as soon as i DO use the "REC" button, i start getting a huge amounts of moisture in my truck. Crack a window open, turn on the A/C to "MAX" and run it this way while you`re driving and this should evaporate most the moisture out of the cab. (also blend some heat with the A/C on)

You may also want to have the drain hose checked again to see if its plugged up. Should be quite a bit of water dripping from the drain hose with all the condensation you speak of. If you dont see too many drips from the drain hose, i would recommend looking for a blocked or crimped drain hose. Sometimes where the drain hose attach`s to the heater box, i`ve seen them plugged right there and water cant even get out the hose fast enough, or worse yet, not get out at all. I also read where you had got inside the heater box... all i can say is, you cant get to the lowest point where the water goes out of the drain hose to check for wetness... the drain hose attach`s to the lowest point of the evaporator housing and you cant get to that area without taking the complete unit out of the truck. To do that, you would have to remove the dash to do so. I dought you want to get that highly invloved with it.

If you have alot of moisture, its going take some time to eliminate it all. I did look at your other post with the picture in there.... stop using the winshield sun deflector, thats not helping matters at all. Another thing that may help, put window visors on your truck and leave a couple windows cracked open slightly... this will help equalize the humidity. Your truck is either leaking water into the cab somewhere (that you havent located yet) or its so air tight that the condensation cant ever get out.

Just one more thing i might add, go get a small 120v house dehumidifier and set it on the floor of your truck over night. It sounds like you have ALOT of water in the trucks interior, the dehumidifier will dry it out. After you get it dried out, dont ever use the "REC" button again. Leave the truck on fresh air mode and hopefully this will solve your condensation issues. Also, like i`ve mentioned before, if you live in a high humid area, regardless or temperature`s, you`ll have condensation to a certain degree no matter what you do. The key is fresh air 100% of the time, thats the ONLY way you`ll ever dry the interior out.

My last thought... have you had the A/C system checked to make sure its working like it should...? Meening, if the A/C system/compressor, is not up to par, or worse, not working at all, it will be ALOT harder to eliminate the moisture. An air conditioner is like a dehumidifier, thats why they work so good at getting the moisture out of the vehicle.(< ONLY if you use fresh air mode...!!!) But if yours isnt workin up to par, i can understand why you`re having moisture issues. I have to also wonder... if the air blend doors in the heater unit are working properly. (like maybe the air blend door is out of sync, or not opening/closing all the way, could be a stuck, stripped or broken actuator) Faulty "REC/FRESH AIR" mode or switch...? When you go in for service again, suggest to the dealer to do a re-flash to the HVAC...???

Dont know what more i could add in here tony, but maybe some others will chime in and throw in some ideas and suggestions around for you buddy. If anything fix`s the issue, please do stop back in here and let us know how its working out. If you get to the bottom of the problem, this would help other people if they should have the same problem.
