Default 2010 Ram Hemi 5.7 oil change

Ok, let me start by saying, this is the first truck I have ever owned. To be honest, I'm a Honda man at heart and have owned several early and late model Accords/Civics. That being said, I will never NOT own a truck again... lol.

Alright, today, I changed the oil in my truck. After completion of draining the oil and installing the new oil filter, I proceeded to fill this behemoth with 7 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 oil. I put 6 in and half of the 7th. I started the truck up for a few minutes to check for oil leaks at the drain plug and the filter. So far, so good. I then let the truck sit for 10 minutes and checked the dipstick, all while being on level ground. I checked it, rechecked it, checked it again, checked my owners manual, and then checked it again. According my to my dipstick, I was WAY over the "safe" zone etched into the dipstick.

My question is this, do I need to jack the truck up and let it sit on jackstands to completely drain the old oil out of the truck? Do I need to let it run for more than a few minutes or let it sit for more than 10 minutes to determine if I overfilled/underfilled with oil? I'm lost. I'm about to drain some out, but I'm thinking surely my OWNER'S MANUAL is not lieing to me.

With my Hondas, it's so easy lol. Empty and fill with 4 quarts. Perfect measurement everytime. Surely, I didn't make a mistake buying this beautiful truck! Any advice would be awesome.

OK! Looks like I'm getting somewhere. I decided to drive the truck from my home to my buddy's house (7 miles away) for a birthday party celebration. Ten minutes after I arrived I ducked outside to once again check my dipstick. To my delight, the dipstick read ever so slightly under the "safe zone". I then added the rest of my 7 quarts of oil to the motor. After the party was over and I got home, I once again waited a bit and checked the dipstick. Wouldn't you know it? I was safely within the "safe zone". The last time I felt this good about changing oil, I was probably 16 changing the oil on my first car for the first time... a '97 Accord. Next time, I'll either let the motor run longer in place or, more likely, drive around the block and let it sit before checking the dipstick.

Oh, believe me. I'm already looking at headers, intakes, and wheels/rims for this beauty.
