swapping factory stereo with OEM navigation
Was wondering if I can swap my factory Stereo in my 2012 ram 1500 with the factory navigation system from dodge?
Will it affect my u-connect? will it be as simple as removing one and just plugging in the nav?
Any help would be great!
Thanks

I'm not totally familiar with what is involved but it's not quite as simple as plugging the new one in. One item you likely don't have is a GPS antenna on roof and likely have to have the truck flashed to recognize the new stereo.
What radio are you upgrading from? Look on the lower right corner of the radio for 3 letter designation.
If you're upgrading from the RES (single disk player radio) then going to the RHB (lower grade radio with nav) would be a plug and play.
If you're going to the RHR (top end radio with nav) radio, the RHR has the Uconnect built into it so you would need to disconnect the existing uconnect module and route a new cable connecting the radio to the mirror. The microphones are in the mirror and need to be connected directly to the radio since it now has the the uconnect in it.
Either way it is not too difficult to do.
I should add that you may need to add the gps antenna on the RHB (I'm not sure about that though).. You should be all set with the RHR as long as you have the sirius radio antenna on the roof. The 2012 has the dual band satellite antenna and the RHR only has one antenna connection for the satellite antennas. If the RHB has only one antenna connection for the satellite antenna then you are set there as well, I just don't konw how many connectors are on the back of the RHB.

I swapped my RES with an RBZ out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, plugged right up and worked fine with no flash. Although the mounting tabs were different I was able to make it work with no rattle. Mine is not GPS so you would have to route the GPS antenna.
Here is a link to al the Radios, proved usefull to me.

Thinking of trying this as well vs aftermarket?
1) I have to look more closely but I think (?) I have the low end RES unit with Sirrius but don't think I have the phone buttons though?
2) If I was to go with an aftermarket head unit what sort of harness is needed to hook it up for JUST the power/control lines? I would gut everything else and go with new speakers/amps and wiring but need to get power and control on/off function
I replaced my base radio (130) with the full screen display one (430) that had the harddrive. I got it from a wrecked Dodge Journey. I installed it at the dealership when I had the back up camera installed and it was simply plug and play but I am pretty sure they had to program the truck to accept it (or that might have just been for the camera). I was told before I had it installed that there would not be a problem with the model, but that I could not go to the nav version without hacing the antenna and other wiring installed. Otherwise, all the other wiring was there.
I also do not have UConnect installed, and I know that the microphone is not in my truck so I couldn't enable the function on the new radio. However if you already have uconnect I believe it is still plug and play.
