Default Noise / grinding sensation turning in 4x4?

I'm pretty sure my 2011 has made some racket while turning with 4x4 engaged from the git-go so this being my 1st 4x4 I assume it's normal? Really starting to feel like grinding and the back wheels chirp in a sharp turn.

Is all this likely 'nature of the beast' or are there some known issues with 4x4?

You don't drive a part time 4wd system on dry pavement - great way to screw stuff up/break it. SInce there is no center diff on a part time system you get binding when cornering unless there is some slip at the tires (snow, mud, sand, loose rock)

Under what conditions are you engaging 4-wheel drive?
