My wife put a dandy of a dent in the rear fender. I just punched it from up and behind and popped it out. It was 95% healed with one good smack with my fist. The remaining waviness I was able to clean up by gentle pushing and prying. Some dents I swear want to return to the original shape and with a bit of coaxing they will.

For dents that the paintless dent removal guys can remove, I let them remove them. And saying that--there are two types of PDR techs--ones that can do it correctly and ones that just think they know how to do it. I would defintely try to find a reference on anybody you hire to do this. Many dealerships have PDR techs come in once a week to work on their vehicles for sale so you might be able to check for one at a dealership and watch him work. Just my advice--I have had great results with the PDR techs for the most part.
