Default Strange shifting all of a sudden

My very new truck today started shifting into low gear prematurely. It shifts normally under heavy to moderate throttle, but with light throttle it would suddenly drop into a lower gear where rpm would be around 1200 -even if I was lightly pushing on the throttle which would produce a heavish thud. The truck had never shifted this way, and after a few months with the truck, I am used to its normal behavior. This is far from normal operation I am used to.

Never happened before. Would resetting the computer possibly fix this (disconnect neg cable, try to start)? Would it hurt anything other than clear out my radio presets? Did it to and from work this morning. The only unusual thing is the weather is a bit colder than normal.

Love the truck, but strange shifting makes my eye twitch.

Check your trans oil level first thing. If level is ok, procede reading what to do next.

You`ll need a nice quiet highway to do this....
Start the truck... next use the +/- on the shifter to drop the transmission down into 3rd, (leave it in 3rd gear) then start from a slow stand still, let the truck shift on its own up into 3rd gear, then push the gas pedal down to cause it to shift back down into 1st, hold down on the pedal, let it shift on its own up thru to 3rd gear. Do this procedure 20 times in a row, this will automatically re-teach the trans program. Then you should be ok from that point on. Let us know if this worked for you... this has fixed a few around here that i`ve done this to. Hopefully it will work for you too. If not, you may need to have it re-flashed at your dealer.

Sometimes these electronic transmissions can get goofy. Going thru a re-learn can sometimes fix these issues.
Unhooking the battery will not usually fix a problem in todays vehicles... especially transmissions.

Atomic,

If you feel like the condition isn't normal you might want to review it with your local Dodge dealer. I brand new vehicle should have full warranty coverage if there is a defect and a repair is necessary.

If you have any warranty inquiries you can PM myself or my US counterpart, Chris, DodgeCares.
