Steering Column Covers
Has anyone removed the plastic shrouds from around the steering column? How about the plastic back on the steering wheel?
I ask because my 3 year old ripped the cruise control stick off my steering wheel the other day. While the stick itself pops right back in, there's a little plastic piece on the end that controls the set/resume/cancel functions. Well as luck would have it, he broke off that piece. I found it, but no luck with super glue, it's an odd type of plastic that doesn't stick well, and it's so small that there's not much material to really stick together.
I'm hoping to do the repair myself and saving the arm and leg the dealer will want to replace it. Of course if they'll take my first born, I've got a toddler right now they can have.

Directions from the FSM seem pretty simple:
From below the steering column, remove the two outboard screws within the recess areas (2) that secure the upper shroud (1) to the lower shroud (4).
NOTE: There are snap connections near the instrument cluster and between the shroud and the steering wheel that secure the upper and lower shroud.
2.Remove the upper shroud (1) by pushing gently inward and upward on both sides of the upper shroud above the parting line of the lower shroud to release the snap features that secure the two shroud halves to each other.

Well the covers were pretty easy to remove once I got the right Torx screw driver. Thanks for the tips oldjeep.
As for my problem though, no luck there. I got the covers off, removed the back steering wheel cover and found that the cruise control stick is wired into the wheel. I couldn't remove the stick or even get to the connector where the ribbon cable was plugged in. I messed with it for awhile, but finally gave up before I messed it up and caused more damage. To get to it you have to pull the steering wheel. Fudge. I went by the dealership and it looks like it'll be $150 for the parts and then a couple hours of labor. I guess that's $300 or so odd dollars worth of toys my toddler won't be getting.
