Default Burning oil

I have a 2012 Ram 1500 with a Hemi I bought in January 2012. I have 18650 miles on t with just over 2000 miles on this oil change. When I started the truck up on Saturday blue smoke came out of the exhaust for about 10 seconds twice and it ran rough. I can not get it to do it again. I am also down over half a quart on oil. Since I can't get it to do it again I don't see a point in taking it to the dealer. Do you guys have any ideas? I am taking it on a 800 mile trip on Friday too.

Brian

I would watch your oil level on your trip. My older Ram with the small V-8 blew a manifold gasket. It caused the truck to use a quart per 500 miles. Some usage can be considered norma.

Maybe it was just a one time hick up.

PCV could have stuck open and got a gulp of oil.

Brian,

The only notes I could find on the issue indicate to check the O rings on the PCV valve to make sure they are both there and that they are not cracked. Also, to check for a collapsed vacuum hose leading to the PCV.
