Default Blower and Controls

For most of the winter, I noticed my AC/Heat blower/fan would not adjust to full vents. It wanted to keep blowing up the windshield, with some air coming out of the vents.
If I turned the selector **** all the way to the right (defrost only) and then all the way to the right (vents only) I could hear the gate move with a click. It must have been moving only half way?

I called Dodge and they said to bring it in.
Now its working just fine. Accept I can still hear when the gate changes from defrost air to vent air. When it opens and closes.

I am out of factory warranty, but do have an extended plan with a $100.00 deductible.

Should I bring it in, or am I wasting $100.00?

Anyone else have any AC blower issues? I remember a recall when I first bought the truck regarding the "Head". Does anyone remeber this recall and could it be part of that problem/recall?

Thanks John

Ive had the exact same issue and I took it in I think it cost $120 or so to have the controls replaced. It was not part of a recall. It will eventually just stop working. Mine would also make a loud knocking noise under the dash.

I also can hear this knocking sound anytime I change the directional setting from all windshield to all floor.
I repeated it several times and thats is when the air started coming out of the vents properly.

I will take mine in on Monday.

This may help you out. Normally when the blend door motor fails it defaults to heat (floor position) but this door and motor controls the flow to all positions.

For those out of warranty and like to fix your own things, here is a quick guide for that clicking noise.

Chances are it is only the motor that is bad if it is clicking or thumping.
Not very hard to fix really. I think most of these cases are the motor gears stripping and not the doors themselves.

If you know how to take the center stack bezel around the radio off you are halfway there. Don't forget about the screw over the 115V out let. Take the bezel off then the two side 12V acc. plugs. Remove the ring bezel around the cup holder if equipped.

Remove the cup holder assembly if you have one.

The culprit is the lower center motor, unplug remove two screws and remove

If the gears are stripped you can position the big gear 180 out from the smaller gear. The door only travels about 120 degrees so won't hit the stripped part.

Reassemble and you should be good to go. 1 to 2 hours of your time. If you want to get a new motor it is about $40 from Chrysler.

Hopefully this is the extent of your problem.

Also, welcome to the Sierra's. Hope you brought your snow removal equipment from NC, you will need it.

Thanks LVRR. I would never attempt that repair, but its great to see someone that will.
I still have not taken mine in yet.

I wish it would have quit altogether. Now it is on the back burner.
I hate to give them $100.00 each time I go in there.

I am due an oil change, so I will let them fix it then.

Update.
Took it in yesterday and they tried the BS that they could not duplicate the noise. (the gate is opening or closing now).
I insisted they open it up and find the plastic defective gear.

I was at the dealership for 4 hours.

They finally came in and told me there was no charge for the actuator. That it was covered under factory warranty.
My truck is a 2009. Well out of factory warranty. But I do have extended coverage with a $100 deductible.
Yet they did not charge me? Whats up?

I don't get it, as the service writers do the talking. You never get to go back where the mechanics are to ask them.
