Extra Keys For Ram 1500
After stalling for almost 3 years, I finally replaced my 2001 F150 for a 2013 Ram 1500... BigHorn, Crewcab, 4x4, 5.7Hemi. So far very pleased... but I miss one thing from the F150... the keypad driver's side door entry. I realize that I can get an aftermarket product, but am uncomfortable with the possible impact on remote opener and remote start... anyway... my question:
The remote key fob that comes with the Ram has a "valet" type key to use if and when the remote battery dies or it doesn't work... but I tried using it and the security alarm went off and was a pain to deal with... is there anyway to stop this? Thank you.

Billy,
The only way to disarm the alarm, as far as I know, is to manual lock the door. From the manual:
Security System Manual Override
The Vehicle Security Alarm will not arm if you lock the
doors using the manual door lock plunger.

I've often wondered what type of trademark or patent Ford has on that keypad and why other manufacturers can't make something licensed from Ford or similar in function. I owned a Ford product once (just once!) and the keypad was a very, very useful feature. Loved being able to lock the keys in the SUV at the beach.
Anyway, subscribed to this thread just in case anyone has a substitute solution, because I would pay actual money for that...

There are other solutions:

I just don't like the idea of messing with the security and remote start on a new vehicle... If the warranty is voided and the security/remote start is damaged it will probably cost big bucks to fix... would also like to hear if anyone has any other ideas.
