y pipe/ x pipe questions
Hi guys. so i went to the muffler shop yesterday ( been there with 3 different trucks now so i trust them) and when i went there i brought in a cherry bomb 2 in 2 out with a x pipe. She told me that she could do it but there might be a issue with smog (im in california). she told me a new law states that you cant change the amount of pipes going into a muffler so a 1 pipe in and turning into a 2 pipe in.
She also said that if there was an issue that i would have had to go to the dealer to get a whole new exhaust system that would cost $2000 is this true?
She ended up selling me a 1 in 2 out flowmaster 44. i dont know if i like it all that much yet. should i go back and have her install what i want or should i buy a 1 in 2 out cherry bomb.
Also should i even bother with the x pipe. Or should i just go get the magnaflow y pipe installed.
At this point im kind of leaning toward the cherry bomb with a y pipe.
What do you guys think Thanks for any responses.

You can't modify anything emissions related. Anything past the downstream O2 sensor is fair game, anything before, you won't pass a smog test unless you've put in a smog certified true dual replacement for your Y-pipe.
If you are going to run the 1 in two out muffler the x pipe cant be used. It is for a true dual system, and installing it after the muffler is just a waste of time and money. No gains that way. Get the magnaflow y pipe and be done with it
