Default Poor quality audio from Satellite radio only? Uconnect

I have a 2010 with the uconnect alpine system which is on par with the best sounding factory systems I have ever heard.
BUT the sirius satellite radio stations all sound horrible. I'd say they sound like 96kbps MP3, I'd say the quality is somewhere between FM an AM quality. FM radio in my truck sounds far superior to the sat stations. I've heard sat in other cars and it sounds great. Did they just drop the ball on the sat portion of this system?
Anyone else notice this?
Bad enough I'm thinking of going to the dealer, but I know they will say it's fine.

Something's not right with yours, I can't tell any difference between streaming from my ipone and sat radio

I also have the RER. There is clearly something wrong then. It's bad enough that I mostly don't bother listening to it, I default to the FM.

I'm ordering a system update CD to give that a chance before I try at the dealer. I'll update once I get that done.

rdculus,

Glad to hear putting that radio to good use!

@broken08, it is important to keep the system up to date. The CD update is designed to keep the Uconnect system running efficiently. If you are still experiencing an issue, a trip to your dealer would be recommended. Depending on your location, the satellite signal can sometimes be interrupted. How long have you been experiencing the static?

Keep us posted,

Sirius sound quality dropped in 2009 and took a nosedive in 2011 after they scrambled the lineup - the present compression rate makes for a tinny/hollow sound (you can blame the merger for that). Basic FM sounds much better.

There's nothing you can do to improve satellite radio quality other than to get an XM receiver (multiple modes to accomplish that).

For those who don't think so, I blame it on your hearing aids for not noticing. We've had threads on this before and Google it if you're still in doubt.

I can also attest to the crappy sound from the Sirius radio. I'm not sure which audio system I have (it may be the one step up from basic) but there was no way I was going to renew Sirius after the original trial was over. Very tinny sounding like from a low bit rate. Terrible.

Those are basically my feelings. If they aren't going to give a good signal, they aren't getting my money. But I've heard it in friends cars and it sounds fine. So why is it bad only in ours? I know it's easier to pick out in my truck since the insanely good system is so crystal clear, but honestly I can't believe dodge would let this garbage sound satellite module exist in their otherwise amazing stereo.

And it's not static, the signal is fine and clear: it's excessive compression.

Yes, I was an audio engineer in a former career, but I feel this is bad enough for even the laypersons ear to be offended. I'd say 96kbps at best, maybe only 72. Tinny is a good way to describe it.

Update: I went to dealer, they said call sirius again and have them "send a stronger signal". I did, and sirius did that. I maybe hear a small improvement on some stations, maybe. You should all try this and listen for improvement. ask for a stronger master signal reset. Post your results here.

Broken08, where are you located?
I'm in Canada, drive rigs for a living so I listen to sat a lot i use both starmate receivers and factory installed receivers and have no issues with sound quality. Maybe we get a stronger signal up here??
