2010 Ram 1500 5.7 Laramie MPG problems!!!
Ok so here is my deal, I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. I have had it for about 3 years and had about between 15-17 MPG. i dont drive the truck hard in face i just cruise around wherever I go. But withithe past 4-5 months I find myself at the gas stating almost every couple days. Looked at my digital read out and, im getting 9.1-9.8. Does anybody have any ideas on what could be wrong? Does my fuel pump/filter needs to be changed, Spark plugs, air filter? i dont know whats going on, but its putting a dent in my wallet. Any input is much appreciated.
How many miles you got on it? Maybe someone has been stealing your gas? I really don't see winter blend, worn plugs, or cold weather causing that much of a drop. Unless your air filter is damn near plugged.
I have 65k on the odo, I havnt checked the air filter but I can't think of what could be sucking the gas down. Lol nobody is stealing my gas either! I do have 20inch wheels with 35 inch tires but they have been on the truck since day one and now all of a sudden the MPG dropped like crazy!
Have you started filling with fuel at a new gas station? Even if not, try somewhere else. I've had a tank of bad fuel lead to crappy MPG before. Got 11.x on the highway where I would normally have gotten 15-16 after filling at a different place than normal.
You could also try unplugging and then reconnecting the battery after a while. That might help reset things if the computer is messed up and screwing up fuel management.
If none of that helps, it's probably time to take it in to the mechanic. The next likely problem is a failing sensor that is leading to a rich condition.

Lots of things it could be. I experienced a 10% drop in mpg and I found out that the station where I was getting my gas had recently switched to an ethanol blend so I blamed it on that. But the drop you're experiencing is much greater so it could be a combination of a few things. Might be worthwhile changing your plugs, def change out the air filter. The culprit may be a failing o2 sensor - check your upstream 02 sensors on both banks. Maybe they are getting bad and not throwing a code???
