Hard Brake Pedal - after sitting & before start up
Hi all, I suspect i have a booster vacuum bleed-down or leak issue of some sort. looking to find out if its curable or normal
Truck:
2014 RAM 1500 Sport, push-button start (suspect they all have that)
10,000km on the odometer
had the Truck since October 2014
Symptom:
After sitting all day or all night, when I get in the truck, I have to press the brake pedal to activate the starter button, but the pedal is rock hard. sometimes I have to literally stand on the pedal will all my brutish 165lbs so that the starter button will work. Once it starts the pedal feels normal, brakes work as normal once running
Now, I'm in Canada, and I've had this problem since it got cold here (sub zero). it started happening when it got really cold (-20 to -40), now its happening even when its just above freezing
Solution?:
Ill take it to the dealer in the next week (due for oil change anyway), but, I'd like to be educated before hand. Is this Normal? or a problem? . I believe from what ive read on other vehicles that the vacuum pressure bleeds off the brake booster over a number of hours or days (depending on the vehicle), so If this is related to rubber hoses, O-rings or seals, I imagine the cold weather will exaggerate the issue.
can if be fixed ?
thanks in advance !!

I'm sorry to learn of your recent concern. It is good that you have an appointment arranged. It is something I would recommend bringing to the Service Department's attention.
It is possible the vacuum hose or power booster require attention, however, a formal diagnosis will pinpoint the root cause. If there is an opportunity to demonstrate the symptom for the dealer, it will benefit the diagnostic process as well.
Keep us posted on the results if you can.
My 2012 Ram started but when I tried to stop at the end of my 600 ft. driveway the pedal was hard and I coasted out to the edge of the road. Good thing now one was coming. I pumped the hell out of the brakes and it became normal again. I passed it off as a antilock brake thing. I hate those things.I can do my own pumping and slow down with out that feature.
