Default Shifter stuck in Reverse

2010 Ram 1500 with column shift auto trans. Went to start and wouldn't turnover, Noticed gear indicator in Reverse, but shift lever unable to move. Removed column housing to access plastic lever that allowed me to shift gears however the indicator still shows Reverse even as I shift through gears. So even though the truck is in neutral or park it thinks it is reverse and won't start. I disconnected the battery (and checked fuses) and reconnected and now there is gear indicator doesn't even light up and truck still won't turnover, Still have to use plastic lever to override the lock out mechanism. Ant thoughts would be appreciated.

Need to go underneath and check the linkage at the trans, I've had them before full of mud so it couldn't fully engage the right gear.

Thanks, but that's not the problem. It is shifting; just doesn't recognize electronically that it has shifted and doesn't light up the gear indicator.

Hi Russ,

Sorry to hear about your concern. I don’t see any TSB’s related to your symptoms. I recommend bringing your vehicle to an FCA dealership for a formal diagnosis. If you would like me to help schedule an appointment, please let me know. Either way, be sure to keep us posted!
