trouble w/ RC leveling kit on '14 1500
I had a RC leveling kit installed on my 14 4x4 back in February. I heard a couple squeaks but I was cold and mostly had the windows up then as it warmed up and the windows came down, the squeaks became more annoying. I took it back to Rhino who did the install. They tightened every thing down and said the squeaks were gone. Well...around town it was gone. Took it an hour on the interstate and it's back on the drivers side. It squeaked for three days then I Saturday morning it was gone and its now Wednesday and I only thought I heard it once pulling in my drive. I checked the three mounting bolts and they are at 45lbs. The squeak is coming from the top of the strut. What would cause this to be intermittent now. Its more of a chirp now also. I can not find an open sided socket nor am I sure what size the bolt is on top of the strut to find one and check it. Rough Country says it's an install problem. Rhino says its the truck or product problem if what they did didn't fix and say next step is to remove it. I'm thinking of getting Bilstein 5100's if I cant get this resolved but I'd want to replace the top mounting pieces in case somethings messed up on the stock ones now and not sure what all the bilteins come with. I know you use your stock spring and mounting plate from what I've read. If anyone had any idea what to try, and has any idea whats going on with the front strut please chime in.
It's actually a preload spacer which goes between the spring and the mount so I didn't think they disassembled the strut during installation but I had Rough Country send my the instructions, So Im guessing something wasn't or isn't right with the top strut mount, could be off centered. I think after reading the reviews of the 5100 that's the way to go for leveling these trucks. Thanks for your reply. I'll post back when I get it figured out but in the mean time if anyone else has any input please chime in. Im needing to find our about the top strut mounts, what all is included, parts I should replace to insure no squeaks with the 5100's. The top nut size would be great to. Still in search of an open sided socket. RC says its 3/8 and one site says 19mm but I thought I got an deep well 18mm on it but cant tell how well its seated.
