Cool Electric Brake Controller

My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 has a trailer package. It seems that during this production year Dodge began to install the trailer package as a general production part. Some Dodge's have the package and some don't. Mine Does. The problem which arises with me is that, I want to install a brake controller in the pocket just above the brake release. MOPAR has a brake controller which is custom fit for the trim box you can purchase. I want to use a Tekonsha Primus IQ controller. Has anyone done this procedure and will the Tekonsha controller fit properly? The MOPAR cost more and does less.
I also see the wiring connector is attached under the dash and not free or taped to other wiring. I have ordered the plug and play 3020P Tekonsha harness and will check the connector before purchasing controller. Also the MOPAR requires a trip to the dealership to add to cluster on dash. I do not need extra cost and Tekonsha makes no comment on this subject. Any information or comments on the subject are most welcomed!

I'd do the prodigy rather than a primus, but yes it just plugs in. I personally think the cubby and stock controller are in the worst place possible for seeing and grabbing the oh **** lever. Better off somewhere on the right where you can see and reach it. Mine was mounted to a piece that fit in one of the cupholders - bench seat, no console.

OldJeep,

Thanks for the reply. I know the prodigy is more advanced but seem like the IQ has a lot and the oh SH__ lever is where I need it for my installation. I have had a controller in other trucks and you are right about the location. I always hit my knee on the damn thing when getting in or when just moving around. I hope I get use to it on the left. I am going to find a Tekonsha and see if this thing fits my application. Good Luck and Keep the Faith.

There was a thread on this years ago. My 09 also came with the tow package but no controller. I ordered the blank plastic trim piece, no chubby, online somewhere. I then got the prodigy and the quick connect harness. Basiclly the prodigy slides through the back of the new trim part. Some dremel cutting on the face and bottom along with some foam and about 2 pieces of metal banding and done. Looks pretty clean. I dont have any photos but I found this info here years ago. Good luck
