Default So I got the Knock

Doesn't really bother me when it's warm but as the weather gets colder the knock is very annoying and lasts longer. Not the hemi tic but it sounds like the manifold knock. Is this under the deal recall? I have 2011 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7. I assume this is the broken manifold bolts people have talked about. Is this a DYI deal or dealer. I have around 135k on my Ram.

Manifold bolts were an RRT not a recall. Had a couple of mine replaced and sounds like there are a couple more. I've got the lifetime powertrain, so I would never bother trying DIY. Considering how hard the plugs are to get at, I can't imagine trying to get at the busted manifold bolts.

Same here. Sounds somewhat like a worn rod bearing but it's not noticeable immediately after startup and persists too long after the oil pressure is up to be a bad bearing. It dissipates once the engine starts to warm up. Dunno...

Check this out. Listen carefully at about 1:40. This is exactly what's going on with mine. One of the comments points a finger at the power steering pump and I'm inclined to agree with that.

That's exactly the same noise mine is making. So is this the power steering pump or broken bolt noise?

The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to swing my vote to the power steering pump. Had a Plymouth that made a similar noise for over 100,000 miles. Initially thought it was the transmission (manual) until someone suggesting it was the power steering pump. Apart from the noise, never had a problem with the steering.

I had loose torque converter bolts that made a knocking noise once in awhile on my 09
