4th gen 2500 2" leveler bump steer problem
First of all I'm new to this forum and I wanna thank all for your time in advance. I have a 2012 2500 that I put a 2" level lift on the front (spacer) and a 2" add a leaf on rear. I swapped the tires and rims for 20" rims and 35" tires. after I did all that I noticed the front tires were off set to the drivers side about an inch and a half. I also had experienced some bump steer and steering wheel is off center. It was recommended to me by someone in the tire industry to install a trac arm drop bracket so I did. BDS track arm drop bracket for 2-3 inch lift. It centered the axle and I adjusted the drag link and centered steering wheel but the bump steer was still there. I installed a new steering dampener due to the old one was bad and a steering gear box stabilizer bracket due to the extra stress on the steering box from the tires. the only thing I can think of is a drop pitman arm to align the trac bar with the drag link. If anyone knows anything about this stuff I would love to hear what you think. A 2' level should not give me this much grief.
have you got an alignment after doing all this...? it should also be said the running 35" tires on 20" rims is going to give you some bump steer no matter what you do... that's a big tire and rim combo..
got an alignment shortly after all the work was complete and the castor was off but the rest was ok. truck has very low miles and all parts are good, ball joints tie rod ends. going to install 2-3" drop pitman arm but if that doesn't help, not sure if I'm going to go backward and uninstall or throw more $$$ at it. I'm at a loss. I understand some of the consequences of having such a big tire and rim but not this bad. I've lifted fords and chevys and even a 06 1500 dodge but this has me stumped.
so after installing a 2" level kit, I had the front axle sticking out on the passenger side farther than the drivers side. I installed a track bar drop bracket. Brought the axle back to center but experienced massive bump steer. Installed a steering gear box stabilizer bracket and new steering damper, mainly for other reasons but that didn't make any difference. After an alignment making sure all things were tight and torqued, no difference. I installed a drop pitman arm and BAM, bump steer gone. Had I known then what I know now, I would have just bought an adjustable track bar. once the track bar and drag link went out of parallel, Massive bump steer occurred.
In my most unprofessional opinion, if you're going to install a level kit, get an adjustable track bar. That would cure the problem before creating one. by the time you spend the $$$ for all the other parts, you would be better off and closer to OEM. The End
