2009 RAM TRX Air conditioner blowing good for a while and then not blowing at all.
SOOO,
I have been having this issue for a couple years, and I am finally fed up! My truck will start out blowing nice and cold...Then after about 3 hours. It will stop blowing. The fan will still be blowing, but no air will come out. The entire time the truck is on with the A/C running it has kind of a loud whistle coming from down around the fan area under the glove box. Its pretty loud.
Another issue, the vents on the consol and the floor in the rear of the cab don't work hardly at all. When we go on long trips we have to stop and let me 18 month old get out and cool off. This issue along with the other issue made it really hard to go visit family when she was a baby.
What I have done to try and figure it out:
- I tried to check the cabin air filter, and it doesn't have one.
- I bought a charger can at Wal_Mart. It's in the green.
- I have taken the blower fan off, and checked to see if the recirculation door is working, it did. (At least in my drive way) - I did notice that hot air was coming from the area while I had the A/C on full blast.
- I checked movement on what I think was the blend doors. the upper behind control panel worked, the one under the glove box is working. I couldn't see the lower blend door behind the control panel. I'm wondering if its the culprit to why I'm not getting air to the rear.
- Took the glove boxes down and control panel, and used my air compressor to blow out into all the vents, and get any dust out of the system.
That is about the extent of my troubleshooting knowledge, and I need help! Does anyone have ideas before I start replacing everything!?

I thought I read somewhere that if the condenser (correct me if i'm wrong) is set too cold that you can have very cold a/c but after a while it can freeze up and not be cold at all? 2 Cents. Maybe a trip to the dealer? Good luck.
the issue with the freezing mentioned above is that the clutch in the AC compressor stays on all the time and this will freeze the ducting. The AC compressor is supposed to cycle on and off as needed not stay on all the time.
I'm not sure if this will work. Next time you have the issue, turn off the AC and turn on the heater full blast and see if this get the air moving again. My thinking is that may defrost the icing, if that is the problem.
Also, when you first turn on the truck in the morning, turn on the AC and open the hood to see if the compressor clutch is cycling.
