Cold Air Intakes
I'm sure this has been beat to death so if someone can direct me to the threads I would be happy. Anyway finally got my third Ram P/U, 2016 1500, 4X4 Laramie quad cab.
Thinking about getting a cold air intake. Do they actually increase mpg at all?
Also, why are they called a cold air intake when the a/c is in the engine compartment? Seems like the stock a/c gets outside air.
Thanks.

Cold air Intake is for the intake. Not the air conditioner. Called cold air because the ones that truly are cold air intakes locate the filter outside the engine compartment and it gets "colder" air. Colder than the engine compartment. They are only good for sound and looks. I've run them on multiple vehicles and never saw any improvement anywhere. The factory Intake already draws cold air so there is no need for one unless you just like the look. Use the search bar and type in cold air intake to bring up the multitude of threads discussing them.
"Hotter than stock AIR intakes" should be the correct terminology.
Some people just like the sucking sound they make when you go to wide open throttle. Sort of like the sound the money makes being "sucked" from your wallet.
Driving habits are the best way to increase your MPG. I don't know many people who can keep their foot out of a HEMI. I know I can't.
