Default Oil filter question

Have a new 2016 Laramie 5.7 4x4, 8-speed transmission. Having trouble finding the right oil filter. I'm getting 2 different numbers. Mopar 4892339AA and 4884899AB. Has anyone else come across this, and what is the correct one. Some internet posts say the AB has replaced the AA, but I can't verify that. Quite confusing. I believe the AB is longer and metric threads. No information in owners manual.

I checked. The current Mopar oil filter for the 5.7 Hemi engine is 4884899-AC.
Please note that in the Chrysler parts numbering strategy, the suffix alfa letters either represent a different in source (manufacturer) or a difference in the component (revision) that does affect form, fit, or function. In the case of this particular oil filter, there is either a change to the component's materials, the performance specification, or the supplier to Chrysler. It is usually assumed that the item with the latest revision number an improved or preferred part.

Best regards,
Dusty

either the 899 or the 399 will work. The 899 is bigger but works. Seems that when FCA went with electronic steering, the changed over to the smaller 399 for easier assy. Also, the 399 is used on other FCA vehicles so it helps with inventory.

Default Hemi Oil Filter Differences: 4884899AC v. 4892339AA

The 4884899AA (M-899) oil filter was introduced for 5.7 Hemi motors on or about 2007. There have been two revision numbers released (suffix AB & AC) since adoption. This filter was used before and after the introduction of electric power steering (2014).

The 4892339AA filter was released in 2015 for the 5.7 Hemi. According to the parts book, this filter is called out for some applications of the 6.4 truck motor, but not all.

Both filters have a 22mm thread and identical gasket format. The 4892339 is considerably smaller in size, and does not have the larger spring bypass valve located at the inlet as the 4884899. Since the two filters have different base numbers, it means there is a difference in form, fit, or function somewhere in the design. Because of the significant size difference it could be assumed that there was at least a change to the filter media, either in the amount of media or its filtration capability.

The 4884899AC is listed as a 8 micron filter. I could not find any specifications on the 4892339.

Dusty
