Hub Assembly Replacement
I think my hub assembly needs to be replaced. I notice it the faster I drive. When turning left the steering wheel vibrates very noticeably. Turning right it is fine. Would this be the right hub? I jacked up the truck and tried moving the wheel, grabbing at 12 and 6 - no movement. However from 9 and 3 o'clock, there is indeed movement. Suggestions?
not sure on the vibration issue but play at 3 and 6 indicate worn tie rods...could be inner or outer.
3 and 6 check the wheel bearing
to check the ball joints; the lower ball joint must be unloaded by jacking under the control arm as close to the tire as possible...then pry up on the tire with a long pry bar...a second check of the upper ball joint... while its still jacked up; is to push in at the top of the tire 12:00.
ball joints have a play allowance specified by the manufacturer....tie rods do not...should have zero play.
