i have a 2000 dodge neon and i need a new cat and a exhaust manifold. i can buy the exhaust manifold at the local parts shop but i dont know where to buy the cat. any suggestions?

 

any shop that makes custom exhaust will be able to get you one, or you can buy them at advance auto, it will prolly have to be a universal but they will work, if you get the demensoins and the inlet and outlet of your stock one they should be able to get you one, you will have to cut the flange off of your stock one to use a universal but they will work, i have done it a few times, i work for advance and i can not remember the part number for the universal if i can think of it i will post it....if you want to go oem, i am going to have to say dealership, but they are about three times as much as a universal one if money is an issue

 

I have the stock manifold, down pipe with cat for a 2003. If you are interested!!!

 

get rid of the cat, straight pipe for possibly extra hp.
i'd stay away from the dealer though, universal would do just fine, try the local muffler shops and they'll be able to hook you up with oneand possbly favricate a flange and make a staght pipe bolt on at the same time when you want to open her up.

 

will it be smog legal to run a straight pipe? i know there is a cat that is on the exhaust manifold

 

Nope deleting the cat will void emissions, but unless you live in a communist state like California or Pennsylvania you should be good still. I would just buy a high-flow cat from Modern Performance or Howell if your worried about emissions...

Getting rid of a cat normally add hp but the gain here b/c of the neon ecu is next to nothing, now mind you in this case I would just go for a high flow cat, or a resanator off of ebay or just weld on a strait pipe. Modernpeformance or ebay either way is where you need to look for the cat though.
