I started a forum a while back with my stepdad. Its not at all vehicle related, so I don't pose a threat to you guys. Its actually about professional cleaning. We are using vbulletin, just like you guys, and have some questions. We keep getting hundreds of spambots signing up and spamming the forum. We have a captcha, but it only slowed the onslaught, not stopped it. How do you control that? My second question is, how did you initially publicize DF? We have a few people on there, mostly people we know in real life, but we need something to give the population a boost.

Any help would be much appreciated. I love the place DF is, and figured you guys are a good forum to model mine after. Would it be ok if I posted the url here in case anybody wants to take a look?

 

Yup, you can never completely stop spammers but if you're getting absolutely hammered look into increasing your difficulty and adding confirmation steps like Eric mentioned.

On top of the added strength in the captcha, you can also implement a question. Make it easy. Something like "what's 2+2?" That will help a bit as well.

As for getting your name out there, get in bed with google and use a tagging system that helps to index posts within google's database.

 

I dunno, I've seen some guys around here would flunk out with that question...
