Avatar and no email Notification

Just thought i would post both here rather than take up space.

I just realized that i am not receiving email notification when subscribed to particular threads, as well i can not add my avatar. If anyone can help i'd appreciate it, cheers!!

Does it have to be hotmail,gmail...etc?
