2014 Dodge Journey V6 Fuel Economy HORRIBLE

Hey guys,
I just purchased a new journey and i just cannot believe the fuel economy on this. According to my read on the dash im averaging 11 or 12 miles a gallon!
Is this a new car thing or what? If so, i may be preparing to do what i've never done, trade in this gas hog.
thanks,
Jeff

Never believe the reading on the dash. Calculate the old fashioned way, thats the only method that will give you the real MPG's. The reading on the dash can be anywhere from 2 to 120 mpg depenging on engine load. It's nothing more than a glorified vacuum gauge.

I know the read on the dash isn't totally accurate, but pretty darn close. I barely drive it around town and have to fill it up every week. The needle drops way too fast. I'm beginning to think something might be wrong with it.

Assuming you have checked the engine air filter and the proper tire pressure
is present then that is bad mpg.
I drive 95% city and average 20 mpg US of course personal driving style
and geography play into the overall numbers.
Other than a dragging brake assy can't see reason for poor results.

Tell me about it..I just purchased this vehicle. I may need to take it in. Unless this is a break in period issue. Not sure

Bought my 2013 with 9000 miles on it. Consistent 21-23 around town. 28 on trips. Like I said, calculate the mileage manually and report that instead of the display.

I don't need calculate to know I'm not getting anything close to 20. I'll be taking this back to the dealer

Good luck. Post back your results.

You bought a new 2014 in September of 2015?

But that's not normal. Mom had one, a V6 and got about what jkeaton is reporting. My only complaint was having to replace pads and rotors at 9000 miles and you know a 68 year old woman ain't hard on brakes.

Only reason I traded and bought her a Hyundai is she had a hard time seeing out of it, especially in reverse. Could never get her used to using back up camera. The Hyundai fit her 4'11" height better...
