Exclamation 2013 AWD V6 Journey Overheating issue.

Hi all, My mothers journey has been overheating these last few days. We live in a semi cold area of the country and she has not been driving it all to much these last few weeks. Vehicle has always had routine maintenance done by me since the warranty expired. So after some research I saw that a lot of people in her mileage range (60 to 100k, she has almost 100k on hers) experience an overheating issue. I was wondering if anyone knows of a Chrysler star case that is open for this model? If i dont have to take out the plumbing and possible replace a head gasket id really like to not do that.

Not aware of any star case for overheating. I'd start with a new thermostat and cooling system service before tearing into the headgasket.

That was going to be my first step, take out all the hoses, drain the system and see if that changes anything. Followed by a thermostat then worse comes to worse the gasket.

Do you have symptoms of a blown head gasket?

I never drive her car, It does not appear she does. It had happened 3 times (overheating) in the past week. Not to the point of steam pouring from the engine bay but temp gauge spikes up stays for a few minutes then returns to normal along with a burning smell. Which leads me to believe its just blockage in the lines restricting the flow of coolant more so than the 2 later options.
