2009 Dodge Journey: Dinging & Won't Start
 

Hi,

I've owned the vehicle for about a year and in about 5 months ago we experienced an issue with the starter, the dealership fixed it with no problem.

I have not experienced any problems since. However, after it being parked overnight and tried to start it this morning and the dashboard lights do not illuminate and there is a dinging sound (the sound the vehicle makes when the door is open or passenger seatbelt unbelted.)

I closed all of the doors and sat in the vehicle and the dinging continues.

After letting it sit for a few hours, I was able to unlock it with the remote and all the interior lights illuminated; but, it still wont turn over.

I think a simple jump will fix the issue:icon_vp:; but, I cannot determine what the dinging is trying to tell me.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

First question is how old is the battery?
Was the electrical recall for 2009 model completed?

Yes, all recalls were satisfied when the vehicle was purchased. The battery, after removing it, was purchased in December 2013 and it was a 5 year old battery. Thus, I am not sure what happened to it; but, it was completely dead.

So, replaced the battery and everything is working again.

Batteries in the vehicles of today (computer driven) are
often the culprit in weird happenings/events.
Over the years I have been on many car forums and
seen them fail when supposedly new to 6 - 9 years.
