Default ESP light on issues

2010 journey 2.4L 192000km. for several months the ESP light has been intermittently on and off. I have used a code reader and no codes have been displayed. recently June 2017 the light has been on more than off, still no codes shown on code reader however a noise has developed that sounds like it is coming from the rear of the vehicle. The noise is inter-mitten but always stops if I touch the brake pedal. To my ear it sounds like a very rapid off-on sound similar to when ABS kicks in on snow or ice. The vehicle seems to be operating otherwise normally. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. GM

found DodgeForm >doddge magnum thread about ESP issues seems alignment could be a major issue. I need new tires so i am going to get tires and an alignment, If that does not work i will get a dealership to scan for codes. I will let you know how it turns out.

phase one of looking for a ESP solution. switched rear wheels to front, immediately ESP light turned off. Have now replaced worn tires and ESP light has not come on. The second issue , the intermittent noise is still happening. I have scheduled an alignment but cannot see how that will resolved the vibration noise issue. will keep the thread going. Any feedback appreciated.

rear brakes look ok no excessive wear nor a major difference between passenger and drivers sides. I did replace all pads and rotors just a 4-6 weeks ago, still no noticeable wear issues right now.

Default esp light gear selector locked.

This morning the wife's esp light came on as she was going to work , she came back and I shut it off and restarted it and the light went off. After work she said the light came on and she could not shift gears. She shut it off and restarted it and the light went out and she could shift again.
She just phoned, she went to get gas and had to restart the car 5 times to get away from the pump. Now most people would drive straight home, right? No she had to go shopping and now it starts and the car will not go into gear. I told her I was going to disconcent the battery when she got home now I am going to the mall to do the battery disconnect. Any suggestions???

Hi Wayne,

Sorry to hear about this! If you end up deciding to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed, just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

Default HMM brake switch???

If you move out of Park before the dash lights cycle , the car will let you use reverse or drive, but if you stop and select park you have to restart the car and move the gear shift right away. This means that the onboard computer is not sensing the brake pedal being depressed. The brake lights work, but that may not may be another contact in the switch. Tonight I want to see if the brake pedal will disengage the cruise control, if it doesn't then I'm going to put in a new brake switch. After that I hope it is cured because then it might be an open wire , and that will be a pain to trace.

Default bye bye

Well I have the switch but then I got that dreaded phone call, Help I'm out on the highway in a 3 car pileup. Yup and it was DOA, hmm maybe we will go for another one, she really really loved that car. I had the oil pan replaced just for peace of mind and installed that backup camera. BYE
