Default 2013 Journey Crew - Battery Light On

The battery light is coming on, sometimes it will be 30 seconds or so after the vehicle is started. I have had the battery tested, it is good. The alternator was checked on the vehicle and when starting, it would drop to 9.6 volts and once started goes up to 14.2 volts even when the battery light is on. I have also replaced what I believe is called the "battery sensor module", it is the negative side clamp assembly. The battery light is still coming on. I have driven the vehicle over 50 miles over several days and the battery has not gone dead even when driving it at night. I have not noticed any slowing of the turn signals, or dimming of the lights even at an idle with even the bright lights on and the seat heaters etc. This makes me think that the battery is actually being charged but the system doesn't seem to think it is. Any ideas where to find a fix for this?

Not sure what your picture is trying to show but our 2013 had the battery saver light come on for days never died before we replaced the alternator. It would sometimes show 14V but also drop to 9 at times. There are bad alternators out there but the Journeys as of yet do not have a recall associated with this 3.6l engine and defective alternators

After having not come on for nearly a week, it reared its ugly head again day before yesterday. The "battery saver mode" message came up this time so the vehicle is now at the Dodge dealer. I suspect it will be the alternator as you said yyz64, and I am now curious if these vehicles are equipped with the "declutching" alternator pulleys. (who in their right mind would do such a thing???) Bottom line, I guess I will find out soon enough. but at least they are promising to replace the radio again (3rd time) for the navigation "unable to unlock maps" issue. Then I can fight with Sirius radio about not paying to port my subscription again.. Cars... gotta hate em sometimes!!

Yes they do have the decoupler on the alternator.Ours crapped out at 45000 km and they are not cheap cost us about $450 parts and labor they are a pain to get out.Dealer will charge you more the rebuilt alternator will cost over $500 here in Canada plus the labor. You may want to look at not getting it done at the dealer unless you have warranty.

Hi Tynker,

I'm sorry to hear about this! Please let us know if you need any additional follow up at your dealership while your vehicle is in service.

Default Back AGAIN!!

Ok, so after 2 years and less that 10,000 miles, the battery light is back on! Needless to say I am very upset about this, the alternator was replaced November 3rd 2017 and here it is February 6th and it appears the alternator is bad again. I had this part replaced at the dealership so it was a factory alternator. Really, should I have to pay to have this part replaced again?? Something smells here... and still do not see any recalls for this issue.

Kori, I hope that you can do something for me with this issue. I do not think I should have to replace this alternator again, the car has 68k miles on it and this will be the second time!

Kori, if you are still available, yes I could use some assistance. I just posted tonight about having this very same issue flair up again last night. This was repaired with a new alternator, and replaced the battery as well on November 3,2017. Feb 5,2020 and the battery light has once again come on. While it appears to again be the alternator, should not this part last more than just over 2 years? The car has 69k miles on it and this is the second time the alternator has gone bad, the first time was past warranty. If there is something you can do to help I would appreciate it, as I am not a very happy customer right now.

Your situation certainly sounds frustrating, Tynker. Have you visited your dealer recently for repairs? If not, we do recommend scheduling an appointment at your earliest convenience. Should you have any questions or would like us to provide additional assistance, please send us a private message.
