Exclamation 2013 Dodge Journey SE 3rd brake light not working even after replacing LED unit

I have a 2013 Dodge Journey SE and the 3rd brake light isn't working even after replacing the LED unit. Does anyone know what the possible problem could be and possible cost to resolve this issue?

Did you check for power going to it before throwing parts at it?

The guy who did my state inspection said he checked the fuse. He said he tried to see if maybe there was a short because when he first put the LED unit in it lit up a few seconds and then went out. Not really sure what else he checked.

I called the dealership they want to charge me $120.00 just to diagnose what could be wrong. Can't really afford to be just giving money away

You'll have to get a volt meter and start checking for power, trace wiring, etc. There have been reported issues with the wiring inside the loom going from the body to the liftgate getting damaged from repeated opening and closing. Inspecting there would be a good starting point if you are not getting power or intermittent power to the light.

Is that something that Auto Zone or Advance Auto could check for me?

No. If you can’t yourself, take it to the dealer or a good auto repair shop.
