Default RT Exhaust Change

Wife is looking to improve the sound on her RT. but didn't want to spend $700-800 for a complete Cat-kit. has anyone just replaced
the suitcase with 2 mufflers. We were looking at maybe 2 magaflows or Flowmasters and leaving the backs as is, but out main
concern is the interior nosie or drone. We had one flowmaster on her Durango and you could hardly hear your self think in the back seat. Any suggests out there.

I replaced the "suitcase" with two series 40 Flowmasters....replaced the
two rear mufflers with two 12" glasspacks. Sounds real good.

There was a serious drone prior to the glasspacks being installed.

I hope that will help you some.

Thanks for the suggest. It is difficult to determine which way to go without hearing what it will sound like. were you able to retain
the orginal chrome tips?

I agree, it is tough to decide. I had read that others had replaced
everything, from the cats back, with the Series 40 Flowmasters.
I too went that route, for a week! I went back to the exhaust
shop and had the glasspacks added. Yes, the exhaust can be
heard inside the car, but it sounds good.....my wife even likes
it. In fact the whole exhaust thing was her idea....she sent
DC an e-mail questioning why our car sounded nothing like
the Magnum in their ad. Of course, they made some lame
excuse.

The stock tips were retained. The exhaust shop I deal with
did an awesome job.

My wife wanted me to ask you just how loud the sound is inside the car. Can you carry on a conversation with someone in the back seat without shouting? we had been thinking about 2 Magaflows. We love the car. We bought ours back in Sept. and it was the 1st one the dealer got in.

Not only can we carry on a conversation....my mother, while riding in the backseat, fell
asleep on a trip to and from Vegas. As far as I know, there is no family history of
narcolepsy...lol

I just removed the 2 resinators with pipes and added 2 4" stainless tips. The change is a bit noticable inside the car, not loud at all and it sounds great from the outside of the car. All this i got done for right at 100.00

Well I took the RT to the muffler shop today and we put on 2 IMCO performance mufflers in place of the suitcase and left the resonators on the back. I like the sound and there is no major interior noise. It sounds alot like the one on the commerical. The wife has not heard it yet, but I think she weill like it.
