GPS tracker. Leave it, or yank it?
 

Hey all,
While going under the dash of our recent 2005 Magnum purchase to fix a heater door problem, I came across a GPS tracker box. I'm almost positive it isn't factory/dealer installed. It's still wired, and blinking. We got the car from an auction, so we have no back history. Probably aftermarket installed with some company/service providing the tracking, that I'm sure by now has expired.

My question is, should I just leave it, and not risk disabling something, or yank it out, and hope for the best?

I install these exact ones in my company's vehicles, It can still be used if you pay for the service and have the # of the unit. I would remove it.

Thanks for the reply.
I disconnected the connector from the box, and the car started fine. I'm guessing that if no service is being paid for, then there's no engine disabling going to happen, correct?

All it does is tell the satellite where it physically is nothing more.

Well, that's a waste of taxpayers money. Watching my life is about as exciting as watching grass grow.

Good idea to kill that tracker.

Here's a question that might interest you.

Did you change the locks on your "new" car?
Do you have the remote control key fob?

Because somebody out there probably has a key to your car, and with that tracker active, they would have known where it is.

As you said, it's an auction car.

Bought it from 2nd hand dealer, thought they might have installed one
