0-60 times?

I just bought a 2005 Magnum RT last week. I love the car, but I am curious about something. What times is this thing suppose to do out of the box? My car is almost bone stock, just a CAI intake. From what I have been looking into, this will not increase horsepower, but does look good. I know it is a 4000+ pound car, but with 340 horses, it should be able to get up and go. I just do not feel the full power of the car, the lighting fast acceleration, at least not 6.6 second fast.

Is there anyone on the site who has done a 0-60 run, and had the time verified by a time slip or other electronic gadget? I have seen from various magazines 0-60 times for the Magnum from 5.8 to 7.5 with the HEMI. By the seat of my pants, I know it is a fast car, I just want to know how fast.

By the way, I love this site. It was probably one of the major reasons I bought my car in the first place! This car looks like nothing else on the road, and fits my family well. The Saturday I bought my car, someone else test drove it 1 hour before me, but did not make the deal. I saw the same guy when I picked up my car a few days later, he was at the dealership, doing the paperwork for a black RT, same features as mine, that the dealership bouht after I bought mine. He also lives just around the corner from me. I guess great minds think alike!

I timed my RT with a Beltronics FX2 0-6- was 5.9 bone stock. Haven't tried it lately.

Went to a 1/4 mile track & turned 14.4 on my first attempt at dragracing in 37 years.

Lots of fun.

Take it to a track if you can.

RE: 0-60 times?

My AWD 2006 model is supposed to be 5.9 0-60. The AWD model is a tad quicker than the RWD model 0-60. My AWD is a rocket out of the whole. I understand what you say about it not seeming that fast. I think it's just because it's such a big car. When I'm in my buddy's WRX, it feels a lot faster, but it really isn't. I've yet to line up against anybody, even though I've tried to egg on other drivers.

I went round and round with Dodge when I bought My RT.
They should be sued for false advertising.
Mine barely made 0 to 60 in 7 seconds. They took another one at the dealer and it wasn't any better.
I like the car but it couldn't pull away from my 99 DeVille and the Deville got a lot better gas mileage.
They should have put the blower on it like they led everyone to believe it would have.

If you are running 7 second 0-60's you have major issues. Either you need to become better acquainted with your car, or there is a serious issue with your car.

2005 Dodge Magnum R/T AWD 5.9 14.5 (Car&Driver Aug '05)

C&D is famous for lowballing the figures (running the car in automatic mode, even with A/C running) AND this is an AWD model. A RWD R/T should be running closer to 5.7 seconds.

The 06 R/T I owned was a very fast car for the size/weight, but I too craved more. So I ponied up and bought the SRT-8. Now I have zero complaints.

BTW: What blower are you talking about? I don't recall ever seeing Dodge advertise a blown Hemi.

You DID test drive the car right? If so, you should have known what to expect.

themightye: Once you hit about 800 miles or so on the motor you'll notice this car does come to life, it opens up well. My R/T changed personalities around 800 miles. Luckily the SRT was already tuned right and after 2,000 miles I have felt no difference from when it was new.

Another thing you might want to do is the throttle recalibration to get better throttle response. Turn your key to ON (but do not start) then floor the gas and let your foot slide off so that the gas pedal snaps back up as quickly as possible. The turn the key off. You should notice a slight difference.

I would say your FX-1 is out of whack.

Maybe an SRT-8, but not a stock RT.
