negotiating the best price on a used car

My previous post stated thta I wa sgoing to putrchase a magnum tonight - the deal went sour becuase of an extremely rude sales manager who tried insisting to me that the car had a 3.5l hemi engine..... anyway i went to a different dealer and found a MINT SXT in magnesium which I am absolutley in love iwth....

They are asking 21000, with a special "internet" price of 19,990 ----I have a trade in that they basically offered me kbb value for. Do you think it is possible to get this price down a bit more???? ANY TIPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED..

Thanks in advance!!!!

First of all that salesman DID NOT know what the hell he was talking about! There is no such thing has a 3.5 Hemi; you did good by going elsewhere. For the second one...Did you get the mileage on it? Always get the mileage that way you know about how much its worth. Always do a KBB or NADA on your car and the car that you are purchasing. Here is a tip for your trade...wash it and clean it out; make it as immaculate as possible; you will get a better deal out of it. But imo the $19,990 is a pretty good price.

there is roughly 17000 miles on it. The trade is mint its only 2 months old - I actually havent even made the 2nd payment yet... losing a nice chunk of cash on it - but so be it... Part of the reason i want to go used...

Should I be worried about buyinga "rental" car????

Some...Usually rentals are driven hard, but if the rental dealership kept up on maintenance than it should be ok. Is that 17000 miles on the car that you are purchasing? and what year is it?

by KBB as you said and 2006 SXT RWD Magnum it says its worth $22,035 in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Depending on what they are giving you for your car and its worth it. If they are not giving you what your car is worth; than its a backwards deal.

RE: negotiating the best price on a used car

If they only offered you $1,400 for a brand new car with only 1400 miles; than they are screwing you, and it will be a backwards sale. I checked on KBB, and trade-in value for your car is well over $14,000. If thats the car you want want say "no deal till you give me what I want for my car"; because they are just going to sell it for what its worth and make a $13,000 profit.

they dont care about the trade - I actually walked today - becaus ethey woudnt give me more for my trade, they told me they are giving me kbb value and they wont go higher. I told them theres no deal then - and they let me go...

Oh well - the search continues.

You mean to tell me that they said the KBB value on your car was only $1,400? The are full of CHIT! Does this place have a website?

Good luck anyway on your future findings!
